![]() It’s an HD blast from the past that’s well worth playing. As it is Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater HD is both nostalgic for veterans and accessible and enjoyable for newcomers. Then again, this isn’t a game that needed much upgrading. Tony Hawks Pro Skater HD is a downloadable title for PSN and Xbox LIVE Arcade that takes the best elements of the classic THPS games and gives them a fresh. Granted, it’s not an easy process to insert that control mechanic, but it would have been a nice touch. The players score is multiplied by the number of tricks in the combo. Searching for collectibles - and other points to perform tricks - would have felt much more natural if you could look around each level with the right stick, a convention that’s become commonplace in so many genres today. - Grind 5 small QPs (quarterpipes) - Destroy 5 sets of wooden. The game could also have benefited from one minor control upgrade as well. You’ll still encounter the same little clipping and screen tearing issues, and skaters still have their fiddly moments. But in the process, some classic flaws return, too. It all brings that classic THPS gameplay back into style. And on the Xbox 360, you can also play as your Live avatar, a fun alternative to creating a random skater. Robomodo also updates its skater pool, inserting Tony Hawk’s son Riley (among others). Hawkman tasks players with performing certain kinds of tricks (manuals, jumps or grinds) along rows of tiny pellets, collecting all the pellets as quickly as possible. ![]() But Robomodo throws in a new mode as well. The classic formula remains the same, which means seasoned fans can thrash the career mode in a few focused hours (once they regain their touch, of course).
